Salvaged from a 19th century Virginia barn. This is the ultimate centerpiece for launching discussion over dinner. Prior to and through the end of the industrial revolution, mortise and tennon joinery was the primary structural makeup of barns in America and in many parts of the world. The "center" of this centerpiece contains a restored mortise and tennon joint. Hand hewn axe marks represent how the original oak log was shaped into a beam.
As with most beams from the era, the outer sapwood contained bug damage. The partial removal of that damage created a soft, live edge appearance while retaining a portion to highlight that part of its story.
Features hand hewn axe marks, worm holes, fissures, mortise and tennon. Finished with mineral oil and includes 8 white candles.
